Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your psychology office located?
My psychology office is located on Stephen Avenue in the central core of downtown Calgary, across the street from Banker’s Hall. The address is Suite 622, 304 – 8 Avenue S.W.
What is your phone number?
I can be reached at 403.700.1776.
What are your credentials to practice as a psychologist?
I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and am a Registered Psychologist authorized to practice in Calgary by the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Are you an experienced psychologist?
I have worked as a therapist with professionals in a variety of settings for over 15 years. Previously, I worked as an engineer in several corporate settings, including on the executive floor, for 17 years.
How soon are you available to see me for a therapy appointment?
I aim to see new clients within 3 days of our initial phone conversation or email.
Are counselling sessions confidential?
Absolutely. I will not reveal anything to anyone unless you give me permission to do so. The only exceptions to this practice are specific conditions where I am required by law to intervene. These include when you threaten to harm either yourself or someone else, and when abuse of a child, or someone who cannot protect themselves, is on-going.
What are your office hours?
My office hours are Monday through Friday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
What is the length of therapy sessions?
Your counselling sessions will typically run for 50 minutes, which is the standard length of time for therapy appointments. I will be happy to work with you for longer, however, if you prefer.
What is your fee for psychological services?
My fee is $225 for a 50-minute therapy session.
Does my medical insurance cover your fee?
Yes, if you have an extended health care plan, psychological services will likely be covered in whole or in part. Please contact your insurance provider to ask about the specific details.
Do I need a referral from my physician for counselling?
You will not require a referral from your physician to see me for counselling. A small minority of insurance companies will want a referral from your physician before they will cover the cost of therapy sessions, but this is rare.
How long will it take before I see results?
Therapy results vary depending on the extent of the issues you bring to counselling, as well as your goals. Most clients report they notice improvements after the first session.
Do you provide counselling services to couples, children, and families?
I typically work with individual adults, only. However, I have an extensive network of counselling psychologists and will be happy to refer you to colleagues who work with couples, children, and families, as appropriate.
Is your office handicapped accessible?
Yes, my office is handicapped accessible.
What is your cancellation policy?
I request advance notice of two business days if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you are unable to give me advance notice, I will ask you to pay the full cost for missed sessions.
If you think we’d be a good match to work together in counselling, please contact me to book an appointment.
